Outlook 2007

1. Set up Outlook 2007 for the first time

If this is the first time you've run Outlook 2007, the first thing you'll see the startup window, click Next. (If you're setting up an extra address go to section 2)

You'll be asked if you want to configure an email account, make sure Yes is selected and click Next.

Account Configuration

2. Set up an additional email address

Open Outlook, go to Tools on the top bar and select Account Settings.

The Account window will appear. Make sure the E-mail tab is selected and click New...

Outlook will try to automatically configure your settings. Unfortunately this won't work with your PlusNet address. Tick Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.

Make sure Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP is selected, click Next

Make sure Internet E-mail is selected, click Next

3. Enter your account details

Fill out the Internet Email Settings window with your account details.

If you're not sure what to enter, each section you need to fill in is explained below.

Internet email settings

User Information

  • Your Name: Your full name or the name you'd like people to see when you send them email from this account.
  • Email address: Enter the email address you're setting up, you would have received this from Swordfox - in this example we are are using example@swordfox.co.nz

Server Information

Choose POP3 from the dropdown box at the top and enter the mail servers that you received from Swordfox:

  • Incoming mail server: mail.swordfox.co.nz
  • Outgoing mail server: mail.swordfox.co.nz

Logon Information

These details would also have been given to you by Swordfox:

  • User Name: This will be the full email address e.g. example@swordfox.co.nz
  • Password: Your password

When you've done this click the More Settings button.

Click the Outgoing Server tab then you'll need to tick My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication, leave Use same settings as my incomming mail server selected. Then click the Advanced tab.

Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number to 587. Click OK.

Click the Test Account Settings button and you should see the message below.

Click Close then Next then Finish.

Congratulations!

Finally Click Send/Receive and your email will be downloaded to the Inbox.
